APP Group Strengthens Commitment to Forest Restoration in Indonesia

APP Group continues to reinforce its dedication to sustainability by directing a portion of sales from its product range toward forest restoration efforts in Indonesia. This initiative highlights the company’s commitment to environmental conservation and aligns with global efforts to combat deforestation and protect biodiversity.

The Forest Restoration Project—SDGs Together!, launched in August 2020, focuses on replanting native tree species to restore degraded forests. Under this program, APP Group, in collaboration with select APP Group China mills, contributed sales proceeds to the Belantara Foundation to support reforestation initiatives.

Over the past four years, this partnership has successfully planted and maintained 43,901 trees across 94 hectares of land. The project has helped restore native ecosystems by reintroducing at least 32 indigenous tree species, including critically endangered ramin (Gonystylus bancanus) and balam (Palaquium burckii), as well as vulnerable merawan (Hopea mengarawan) and balangeran (Shorea balangeran). Additionally, it has contributed to the conservation of near-threatened species like bunga meranti (Shorea leprosula), which is listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.

“Forest restoration plays a crucial role in combating climate change and preserving biodiversity. APP Group is proud to be part of this initiative,” said Tan Ui Sian, Representative Director of APPJ. “These efforts not only promote environmental sustainability but also support local communities that depend on healthy forest ecosystems.”

The project was featured during SDGs Week 2024 at EcoPro Japan, where the Belantara Foundation showcased its ongoing conservation work. The event highlighted the importance of corporate partnerships in achieving global sustainability goals and addressing climate challenges.

As APP Group continues its sustainability journey, the company remains committed to responsible sourcing, conservation, and impactful environmental initiatives that drive meaningful change.
